Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Neve 2024 by M. Chapoutier
Tasting
Appearance
Deep and intense, the black color reveals subtle satin-like highlights.
Nose
The first aromas reveal intense notes of graphite and cold smoke. The bouquet then opens with aromas of wild berries and blackberry leaves, complemented by delicate floral hints of violet.
Palate
The attack shows remarkable density, supported by lively acidity and finely chiseled tannins. The palate evolves with flavors of black pepper and roasted notes, before stretching into a saline finish of great precision and verticality.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with richly flavored meats such as roasted beef fillet with mild spices or a rib of beef with thyme. It also enhances delicate game dishes like roasted quail with truffle, as well as poultry served with mushrooms. For cheeses, a tomme made from sheep’s milk, a semi-aged Cantal, or a farmhouse Saint-Nectaire will be ideal matches. To finish the meal, a lightly sweet dessert such as a dark chocolate lava cake or a blackberry tart will accompany it perfectly.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate Neve 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 60 and 64°F, after decanting it one to two hours beforehand. With remarkable aging potential, this wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2044.
The mineral and elegant expression of a great Côte-Rôtie wine
The estate
Founded in 1808 in France, in the Rhône Valley, the Maison M. Chapoutier is a true benchmark in the world of wine. Taken over in 1990 by Michel Chapoutier, the estate underwent a decisive turning point with the pioneering adoption of biodynamics and the creation of the Sélections Parcellaires, aimed at capturing the essence of each terroir. Today, Michel Chapoutier runs the estate alongside his children, Mathilde and Maxime. The group oversees more than 1,200 hectares worldwide while maintaining strong values of inclusion, illustrated by the use of Braille on its labels.
The vineyard
Originating from a singular lieu-dit in the commune of Ampuis, this wine comes from a Côte-Rôtie parcel covering between 1.5 and 3 hectares. The vines benefit from an ideal south-southeast exposure, ensuring optimal sunshine balanced by Rhône Valley breezes. The terroir stands out for its demanding soils composed of schist and mica schist, forcing deep root development. The entire parcel is cultivated according to the rigorous principles of certified biodynamics.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage presented notable climatic challenges. A storm around September 19 and 20 notably forced the teams to bring forward the harvest earlier than expected. Despite this capricious weather, the growing cycle allowed for the harvest of healthy berries.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for Neve 2024 are harvested by hand and fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in raw concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts, with temperatures gradually rising to 86–90°F. A long maceration of four to five weeks is punctuated by pump-overs and gentle punch-downs. After settling, the wine is transferred to barrels for aging lasting 14 to 18 months in 228-liter Burgundy barrels, 25 to 30% of which are new.
Grape variety
This Neve 2024 by M. Chapoutier is made from 100% Syrah.
