A structured and elegant Nebbiolo d'Alba from Piedmont
The estate
Founded in 1814 through the union of Juliette Colbert and Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti, Marchesi di Barolo embodies the cradle of modern Barolo in Piedmont. Marchesa Giulia transformed nebbiolo into a dry, delicate wine, creating “the King of Wines”. Acquired in 1929 by Pietro Abbona, the estate remains in the hands of the Abbona family, who continue six generations of expertise. With 130 hectares in the Langhe, the property preserves five historic foudres over 150 years old, a testament to a centuries-old Italian tradition.
The vineyard
The Nebbiolo d'Alba Roccheri comes from clay-limestone hillsides that bring structure to the wine, combined with soils rich in sand and silt that lend fragrance and fruitiness to the whole.
Vinification and aging
The grapes for the Nebbiolo d'Alba Roccheri 2022 are harvested exclusively by hand. After gentle pressing and immediate destemming upon arrival at the winery, fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated tanks at a controlled temperature. Maceration is accompanied by gentle, repeated pump-overs. The wine is then transferred to vitrified concrete tanks for spontaneous malolactic fermentation at around 22°C. Aging continues for about a year in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks.
