Robert Parker

Monica Larner

From a warm vintage, the Tenuta Sette Ponti 2020 Oreno (a blend of certified organic Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is very rich and fleshed out, and definitely softer compared to the 2019 vintage before it. This wine shows lots of savory fruit and velvety concentration with blackberry preserves and baked cherry. Oreno awards you with a very generous expression from Tuscany that can be enjoyed in the near- or medium-term.

Decanter

Named after a stream that runs through a clay-rich part of the estate where the Merlot is planted, Oreno also comprises Cabernet Sauvignon on pebble-laden soils and a splash of Petit Verdot. Vinified in stainless steel with a maceration of around 25 days, the wine is then matured for 18 months in barriques, 50% new and 50% second passage. Oreno 2020 offers complex scents of pure black and red berries, tar, spice, potpourri and a balsamic waft. Fresh and bright, juicy and airy, there's plenty to enjoy on the palate, although the wood needs further time to integrate; intense red, black and blue berries, chocolatey tannins and touches of cream and wood make for a rich and delicious wine with plenty of freshness and elegance.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Bright, radiant ruby red. Delicate aromas of blackberries, ripe wild berries, some liquorice and mint, plus a fine touch of sealing wax on the finish. On the palate, radiant and clear, with tightly woven tannins and vivid fruit. Very juicy on the back, seems balanced and profound, with a long finish.

A forest floor of berries, brambles, wild herbs and soil on the nose. Mixed berries, both macerated and fresh, on the palate play beautifully against anise and licorice, then dark chocolate and coffee, with a seemingly infinite finish held up by tightly coiled but refined tannins.
