The attack is soft and harmonious, offering an elegant and refined texture. The mid-palate unfolds concentrated flavours of black cherry, supported by a lovely mineral tension and fine tannins. The finish, long and persistent, extends into notes of spiced cherry, salinity and herbaceous touches, leaving an impression of great freshness.

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted red meats such as beef tenderloin or herb-crusted lamb, as well as with feathered game or poultry in sauce. It also perfectly complements aged cheeses such as Comté or Époisses.

The elegance and mineral precision of a Ladoix wine
The estate
Founded in 2001 by Thibault Liger-Belair, who remains its current owner and winemaker, Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair is based in the heart of Burgundy, France, in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Continuing a historic family legacy, it tends around eight hectares of vineyards spread across several villages, complemented by plots in Beaujolais. Certified organic and then biodynamic, the estate stands out for its philosophy of respect for living organisms, illustrated notably by horse ploughing and a minimal-intervention approach aimed at expressing the purest identity of each terroir.
The vineyard
The "La Toppe d'Avignon" plot is located on a southwest-facing slope, within the Ladoix appellation. This unique terroir, nestled in a topographical depression, benefits from particularly deep soils for the area. The soil is mainly composed of fine clay and limestone, dotted with small pebbles that give the wine its characteristic tension and minerality. The estate applies rigorous biodynamic principles here to preserve the natural balance of the vines.
The vintage
The year 2022 began with climatic challenges, marked by episodes of spring frost during budbreak, followed by strong mildew pressure in the middle of summer. However, the season allowed for optimal phenolic and sugar ripeness, yielding grapes of great freshness and lovely complexity.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for this Ladoix Village "La Toppe d'Avignon" 2022 are entirely hand-harvested and undergo a rigorous triple sorting process. The berries are fully destemmed before fermentation in open vats using indigenous yeasts, lasting around three weeks with very gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels (with a maximum of 50% new wood) for fourteen to eighteen months, without any racking, in order to preserve the full purity of the fruit.
