Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Sur la Roche" 2025 Verget

Tasting

Appearance
This cuvée reveals a pale gold robe illuminated by bright green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet of this premier cru generally expresses great complexity. It combines aromas of citrus and white- and yellow-fleshed fruits with subtle floral and spicy notes. A deep limestone minerality, evoking crushed rock, elevates the whole.

Palate
True to the cuvée's style, the palate offers a generous attack and a velvety texture. The mouth stands out with beautiful lemony tension and a fine structuring framework. The finish stretches with precision and freshness, revealing savoury iodised touches.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs wonderfully with refined seafood such as scallops, lobster or a noble fish served with a beurre blanc sauce. It also enhances a roasted poultry with herbs or a cooked pressed cheese such as Comté.

Serving and cellaring

To fully enjoy the potential of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Sur la Roche" 2025, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Designed for ageing, this wine has a fine cellaring capacity that can extend over one to two decades.

The pure, mineral expression of a great Pouilly-Fuissé terroir

The estate

Founded in the late 1980s by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen, Maison Verget has established itself as an essential signature in Burgundy. Based in Vergisson, at the heart of the Mâconnais, the estate stands out for its "haute couture négoce" approach. Still led by Jean-Marie Guffens, the house showcases meticulously selected grapes sourced from partner winegrowers. A true laboratory of terroirs, Verget reveals with the precision of a goldsmith all the richness and diversity of the Burgundian climats through cuvées of remarkable quality.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the prestigious "Sur la Roche" climat, classified as a premier cru within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Located in the commune of Vergisson, this high-altitude terroir peaks between 300 and 390 metres on slopes ranging from 12 to 15%. The vines thrive on shallow brown soils resting on a bedrock of hard Jurassic limestone. The privileged east and south exposure ensures ideal morning sunshine, promoting optimal ripening of the berries while preserving lovely freshness.

Winemaking and ageing

Although the specific technical choices for the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Sur la Roche" 2025 have not yet been documented, Maison Verget usually crafts this wine from the pure first press juices. Fermentations take place with indigenous yeasts. Ageing, carried out on lees with regular bâtonnage, takes place in oak barrels or stainless steel tanks depending on the characteristics of the vintage, thereby ensuring an authentic expression of the terroir.
