A precise and expressive Chenin Blanc from the Western Cape

The estate

Founded in 2011 by Chris and Suzaan Alheit, Alheit Vineyards has established itself as a benchmark for the authentic expression of South African terroir in the Western Cape. The couple mainly produces Chenin Blanc and Sémillon wines from old vines. Their radically minimalist philosophy relies on minimal intervention to showcase the purity of the terroir.

The vineyard

Hereafter Here 2024 comes from young vines as well as from a few parcels of older vines spread across several terroirs of the Western Cape: Swartland, Piekenierskloof, Bottelary, Polkadraai, Paardeberg and Tygerberg. These parcels, still too young to be included in the Cartology cuvée, nonetheless offer a fine expression of South African Chenin Blanc.

Vinification and aging

Hereafter Here 2024 is crafted following a non-interventionist approach. Whole bunches are pressed, and the slightly cloudy juice is set to ferment without any additions. Spontaneous fermentation takes place for around two months in old barrels of varying sizes. The wine then ages for twelve months on lees in barrel, followed by a further six months in tank on fine lees. No fining is carried out before bottling.

Grape variety

This white wine from South Africa is made from 100% Chenin Blanc.
