Veuve Clicquot, recognizable by its yellow label, is a symbol of champagne excellence and French art of living: discover this exceptional House.
Location and Area
The House is established in Reims, in the heart of Champagne. Its estate, covering approximately 390 hectares, is among the most extensive and prestigious in the region. The vines, carefully distributed within 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and 20 of the 44 Premiers Crus of Champagne, testify to the demanding standards and pursuit of excellence that characterize the house.
A Fascinating History
Founded by Philippe Clicquot, the brand took a decisive turn in 1805 when Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, widow of François Clicquot, took over the reins of the company. Innovative, she became one of the first businesswomen of her time, introducing the riddling table in 1816 and rosé d'assemblage in 1818. Forever marking the history of the House, the Veuve Clicquot would then become the one known by the title "La Grande Dame de Champagne". Since 2020, Didier Mariotti embodies the spirit of the property as cellar master, ensuring the continuity of the House's unique style.
The Terroir and Cultural Practices
Veuve Clicquot's vines flourish mainly on hillsides ideally exposed to the sun, resting on exceptional chalky soils, renowned for giving champagne incomparable minerality and finesse. True to its commitment to sustainable development, Veuve Clicquot limits the use of inputs (herbicides, fungicides, etc.), and nearly half of its surfaces are now certified "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne".
Production and Aging
Veuve Clicquot champagnes are made according to the traditional champagne method, with aging in cellars well above legal requirements. The important proportion of reserve wines used guarantees the continuity and regularity of the House's style, year after year. Veuve Clicquot thus watches over a collection of more than 400 reserve wines from 17 different vintages, and each year, between 700 and 800 still wines are tasted to compose unique blends.
