The refinement of a great high-altitude Argentine Malbec from Bodega Catena Zapata
The Estate
Founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, Bodega Catena Zapata is a true benchmark of Argentine winemaking. Located in the Mendoza region, this historic estate is now run by the fourth generation, embodied by Dr. Laura Catena. A pioneer in exploring high-altitude terroirs, the family has restored the prestige of the country's signature grape variety. Thanks to extensive research carried out by the Catena Institute of Wine, the estate today combines family tradition, regenerative viticulture and a scientific approach to produce wines of exceptional international renown.
The Vineyard
The grapes come from the Fortuna Terrae plot, located within the prestigious Adrianna vineyard in the Gualtallary sub-region, in Tupungato, in the province of Mendoza. Rising to an altitude of 1,366 metres, this exceptional terroir is characterised by deep loamy soils. The site benefits from an environmentally responsible approach, fostering rich biodiversity where native grasses, beneficial insects and local wildlife coexist.
Winemaking and Ageing
Under the supervision of winemaker Alejandro Vigil, the production of the "Adrianna Fortuna Terrae" Malbec 2023 begins with a cold maceration lasting three to seven days. The winemaking process incorporates a high proportion of whole clusters, representing 60 to 80% of the harvest. Finally, the wine undergoes a careful ageing process of 14 to 18 months, split between concrete vats and large 2,200-litre foudres, to preserve the full purity of the fruit.
Grape Variety
This cuvée is made from 100% Malbec.
