Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Amancaya 2022 by Bodegas CARO
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a velvety red colour with intense ruby highlights, reflecting a beautiful depth of colour and a vibrant youthfulness.
Nose
The nose is intensely fruity and fresh, driven by aromas of strawberry, blackcurrant, cherry and blackberry. Floral notes of violet, dried herbs and a subtle balsamic touch complete the bouquet, while gentle oak reminiscent of sandalwood adds a further nuance in the background.
Palate
The palate is long, balanced and pleasant, with fine tannins and a slightly chalky texture. Generous flavours of ripe red and black fruit unfold without excess, on a silky framework. The finish, marked by a hint of green pepper, extends the aromatic persistence towards notes of black fruit and gentle oak.
Food and wine pairings
This wine is an ideal partner for grilled red meats, notably rib steak or sirloin, as well as traditional Argentine barbecue in the style of asado. It also pairs very well with slow-cooked beef or game dishes, lamb prepared with herbs such as rosemary and thyme, or roast poultry served with a red berry sauce. As for cheese, it matches well with uncooked pressed cheeses with a melting texture, such as Saint-Nectaire.
Serving and cellaring
Amancaya 2022 can be enjoyed now, while also offering a cellaring potential of several years.
Amancaya 2022, a Mendoza blend between Bordeaux tradition and Argentine identity
The estate
Bodegas Caro was born in 1999 from a joint venture between Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and the Catena family, through Bodegas Catena Zapata, bringing together two winemaking traditions around Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Located in Godoy Cruz, on the outskirts of Mendoza, the estate is today co-managed by Saskia de Rothschild and Laura Catena, with Philippe Rolet as General Manager. Bodegas Caro relies on a rigorous selection of high-altitude terroirs in Luján de Cuyo and in the Uco Valley, with an approach focused on sustainability and biodiversity.
The vineyard
The grapes for this vintage come from selected plots in the Mendoza region, on high-altitude terroirs with predominantly alluvial and limestone soils, which promote slow ripening, preserve the freshness and acidity of the grapes and bring concentration and aromatic finesse.
Winemaking and ageing
For the production of Amancaya 2022, part of this Argentine wine is aged in French oak barrels to bring complexity and structure, while another part is kept in tanks in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the overall freshness.
Grape varieties
Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
