An elegant Italian red wine from the Sarmassa cru in Piedmont
The estate
Founded in 1885, with its first bottling in 1910, Azienda Agricola Brezza has embodied Piedmont’s winemaking excellence for more than a century. Under the leadership of Enzo Brezza (fourth generation) and Marco Brezza (fifth generation), the estate farms 20 hectares of certified organic vineyards spread across the communes of Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and Novello. The property stands out for its traditional approach, favoring spontaneous fermentations, aging in large, untoasted Slavonian oak casks, and no filtration whatsoever.
The vineyard
The Sarmassa cru is located in the commune of Barolo, at around 250 meters above sea level. The vines benefit from a particularly favorable due-south exposure. Clay- and limestone-rich soils give the wine its generous, full-bodied structure. The estate farms its parcels according to organic principles, with respect for the terroir and the environment.
The vintage
The year 2014 proved cool and demanding for the winegrowers of Piedmont. These distinctive weather conditions gave rise to wines with an elegant, streamlined profile, marked by fine aromatic precision.
Winemaking and aging
The 2014 Sarmassa is vinified according to the estate’s traditional methods. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by long macerations allowing for gentle extraction. Aging takes place in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Nebbiolo.
