Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Petite Arvine Coteaux de Sierre 2024 Caves du Paradis

Tasting

Colour
Beautifully limpid, the wine reveals a pale yellow hue with subtle greenish tints.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves complex, opening with distinctive notes of rhubarb. It then evolves toward citrus aromas such as lemon and grapefruit, mingled with touches of exotic fruit like passion fruit and peach, all underscored by delicate floral nuances of wisteria.

Palate
The attack is lively and invigorating, carried by a lovely natural acidity. The mid-palate offers a texture that is at once full-bodied, creamy and elegant. The remarkably long finish lingers on fruity and floral notes, enhanced by a delicate mineral and saline touch.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, particularly scallops and langoustines, as well as white-fleshed fish. It also pairs beautifully with poultry, Asian dishes made with coconut milk, asparagus, or a platter of regional hard cheeses. More boldly, it enhances foie gras preparations.

Service and storage

The Petite Arvine Coteaux de Sierre 2024 can be enjoyed now for its youthful fruitiness, but it will continue to develop its mineral complexity and can be kept until around 2034.

The liveliness and complexity of a white wine from the Valais appellation

The estate

Founded in 1959 by Alex Roten, the Caves du Paradis estate is an iconic family-run operation located in the Valais wine region of Switzerland. Today, Olivier Roten, representing the third generation, leads the property. The estate tends its own vineyard, complemented by grapes sourced from loyal local winegrowers. Committed to environmentally responsible practices, the estate stands out for its dedication to showcasing indigenous grape varieties while exploring innovative methods to express the full richness of its alpine terroir.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of Valais, the vineyard stretches across steep hillsides around the villages of Sierre, Miège and Salquenen. The vines benefit from exceptional sunshine and a dry, steppe-like climate, shielded by the alpine peaks. The soils, predominantly limestone and perfectly well-drained, provide an ideal setting. The influence of the foehn, a warm, dry autumn wind, encourages berry concentration while preserving optimal health of the fruit.

The vintage

2024 was marked by unusual weather patterns. Following a hot summer season, the harvest period saw frequent rainfall. Nevertheless, the interplay between the heat accumulated over summer and particularly cool nights during the final weeks of harvest allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining a lovely natural acidity.

Winemaking and aging

The creation of this cuvée is the result of meticulous attention in the cellar. To preserve the aromatic freshness and natural liveliness characteristic of this demanding grape variety, the wine undergoes carefully controlled aging with very limited contact with wood, thereby favouring the purity of the fruit, followed by careful filtration prior to bottling.
