Description

A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé exuding refinement and complexity

The estate

In 1955, Marcel Dassault, CEO of the eponymous group, acquired Château Couperie, which was then abandoned. Marcel Dassault set out to craft a great Saint-Émilion wine that would fully showcase the potential of this exceptional terroir located on the northern slope of the appellation. Following extensive renovation work, the former estate, now renamed Château Dassault, was promoted to Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion in 1969.

The vineyard

The vineyards of Château Dassault cover 24 hectares, 20 of which are in production. The vines, averaging 26 years of age, are planted on a terroir of sands and clay over Fronsadais molasse characteristic of Saint-Émilion. Certified HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3 and ISO 14001, the vineyard undergoes superficial soil tillage and parcel-level cover cropping.

Winemaking and aging

Hand harvesting followed by optical sorting. Grapes are gravity-fed. Winemaking is carried out parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled concrete vats and entirely in barrels. Aging lasts between 14 and 18 months in barrels (70% new, 30% one-wine barrels).

Blend

This 2019 Château Dassault is the result of a blend of Merlot (74%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%).
