Juicy and lively, with plenty of liquorice and dark chocolate notes lacing the blackcurrant, raspberry, blueberry and plum fruit. Feels well crafted with balanced acidity and a super-sleek texture, and I love the limestone touches – the salinity and minerality. Tannins are fine and well integrated. There’s a classicism here despite being a big wine – clearly well structured – yet it shows lovely pure acidity, a clean fruit profile and long length. Feels supremely well made – definitely one I wanted another glass of! Understated charm and great value.

The 2020 Château De Pressac showed beautifully, with terrific purity in its spicy dark fruits, spice, chocolate, and earthy nuances. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe tannins, it's another balanced, layered, incredibly impressive Saint-Emilion that does everything right. It's going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for two decades, if not longer. The blend is 79% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Carmenère and Malbec.

A successful delicacy from St. Émilion, with ageing potential.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Chateau de Pressac is a little muted at this youthful stage, revealing subtle notions of prunes, blueberry compote, and kirsch, followed by hints of charcuterie, licorice, and garrigue. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated in the mouth, a lively backbone and ripe, rounded tannins frame the mid-palate and long finish beautifully.

Very astute choices were made at Pressac in 2020, but that’s nothing new! The wine stands out for its precision and accuracy. Its somewhat suave tannins are silky and aligned with the acidic structure imparted by the terroir of Saint-Etienne de Lisse, regardless of the vintage! A fresh, mouthwatering wine! So much harmony, character and promise… if you can manage to resist it, as you might end up drinking it sooner!

The aromatic richness and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion

The estate

To the east of Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, Château de Pressac overlooks the commune of Saint-Étienne de Lisse. Having witnessed the surrender of the Hundred Years’ War, Château de Pressac is a true historical and viticultural stronghold of the region. Since 1997, the honor of managing the vineyard and the Pressac estate belongs to the Quenin family. Thanks to their philosophy of excellence and their passion for this exceptional terroir, they elevated Château de Pressac to the rank of Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion in 2012.

The vineyard

This nearly 33-hectare Saint-Émilion vineyard is managed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture on a limestone plateau overlooking the Dordogne.

Vinification and aging

Hand-harvested in small crates, the grapes undergo a double sorting before being gravity-fed into the vats. Fermentation takes place with gentle pump-overs and/or rack-and-return. Maceration lasts 18 to 24 days. Malolactic fermentations are carried out partly in new barrels. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels, 50% of which are new.

Blend

Château de Pressac 2020 is made from a blend of merlot (79%), cabernet franc (12%), cabernet sauvignon (6%), malbec (1%), and carménère (2%).
