The elegance and freshness of a Sauternes wine by Château Doisy-Védrines
The estate
Founded in 1704 by the Védrines family, the original estate was divided in 1851 to create the Château Doisy-Védrines, the largest of the three resulting entities. Located in the Bordeaux region, this prestigious property has belonged to the Castéja family since 1946. Today, Olivier Castéja manages this historic estate with the ambition of modernizing the image of great sweet wines. Renowned for its exceptional terroir, Château Doisy-Védrines stands out for its ability to produce cuvées combining power, complexity, and freshness, making it a benchmark of its appellation.
The vineyard
The vineyard extends over a single block of approximately 27 to 35 planted hectares within a 51-hectare estate. Ideally located at the highest point of the Haut-Barsac plateau, in the Sauternes region, it benefits from a heterogeneous terroir composed of clay-limestone soils, sands, fine gravels, and iron-rich limestone. The vines, aged 25 to 35 years, are planted at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The proximity of the Ciron River encourages morning mists, essential for the development of Botrytis cinerea. The estate has been HVE 3 certified since 2019.
The vintage
The growing season benefited from moderate temperatures. Strategic rainfall at the end of August enabled a rapid and intense onset of noble rot. However, a late heatwave limited berry development, resulting in moderate yields of around 30 hectoliters per hectare, thereby promoting exceptional concentration.
Winemaking and aging
Harvest took place from September 17 to October 13 in three successive passes. Aging is carried out in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The final blend is the result of meticulous selection among 17 distinct lots. Alcohol: 14% vol.
Grape varieties
Château Doisy-Védrines 2025 is a blend of 88% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc, and 4% Muscadelle.
