Château Feytit-Clinet 2020

High extract, angular tannins, burning finish.

Ripe and full on the palate, with gorgeous weight in the perfumed, enveloping tannins, just stopping short of being too liquorice. The fruit has a dried-raisin edge, with rich and powerful black cherry and plum flavours. A little closed and tight right now, the texture puts up a wall and stops some of the fruit enjoyment. It does have a nice frame and weight, and there is a sleekness here, but it's also a bit oaky on the mid-palate and finish with a cinnamon and clove tang that sticks out. Plenty of structure and life; this will be delicious.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and dense with layered fruit but discreet aromatically. Tannins plentiful but big and bold leading to a chewy finish. Touch of alcohol as well. Plenty of matière, just a little brash and cumbersome at the moment. (JL)

The 2020 Feytit-Clinet has a vibrant, expressive, beautifully defined bouquet with wonderful tension considering the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very fine acidity, blackberry and boysenberry fruit with white pepper and thyme toward the finish. Impressive length and class, this is a superb Pomerol.

Full-bodied, rich, deep and sensuous, here you find all the truffles, chocolate, flowers and silky, dark pit fruits you could ask for. On the palate, layer after layer of chocolate-coated black plums and cherries, with a touch of spice and wet earth, start off strong and finish even stronger, thanks to its freshness, length and sensuality. Drink it young for its fresh, lush fruit, or age it for more truffles, flowers and other secondary nuances. Drink from 2025–2050.

One of the best kept secrets in Pomerol is the quality of the wines from Jeremy Chasseuil's tiny estate located between Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol, just across the street from the Clinet sector. Coming from a 6.32-hectare parcel and a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château Feytit-Clinet sports a dense purple hue to go with blockbuster aromatics of ripe black cherries, cassis, chocolaty oak, leafy herbs, and damp earth. Full-bodied and concentrated, with remarkable purity and ultra-fine tannins, this utterly brilliant Pomerol will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and will evolve for 20-25 years or more if well-stored.

Precise, sculpted, tightly knit dark fruits, spiced plum, cedar, turmeric, black pepper and cocoa bean. Plenty of grip and energy, 42 hl/ha. pH 3.7.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Feytit-Clinet starts off a little closed, requiring a few swirls to unlock notes of fresh black and red cherries, blackberries, fragrant earth, and fallen leaves. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins with just enough freshness to counter the rich, concentrated black fruit flavors, finishing with great length.

A floral, fruity nose, unexpected at first glance given the opaque, dense color—inky black with violet highlights. On the palate, a texture that is both fine and fluid, and a suppleness that yields to freshness, with delicately wrought tannins, extending into a fruity, juicy finish. A refined, seductive wine, already easy to approach.

Feytit-Clinet is the Pomerol cru you need in your cellar! Such consistency from Jérémy Chasseuil and his teams. The 2020 may show a touch more charm than usual, but its tannins manage the entire palate with convincing poise. Lovely fruity intensity on the finish, with good persistence to boot.

Dark, intense color. Moderately aromatic nose with ripe fruit. A hint of black fruits. A touch of flowers. On the palate, I did not find that noble aromatic dimension. The body is supple, the whole is pleasant and flavorful, but a bit linear. Medium length.

Heady and musky, this fleshy, ripe Pomerol, fully in tune with its vintage, plays the spice card and deftly handles its sun-kissed profile. It is undeniably a powerful, dense wine, yet endowed with fine structure and a superb tannic framework. Built for aging.

Deep ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Delicate suede and herbs, black cherries, fine wild berries, chocolate nuances; an inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, powerful texture, ripe cherries, fine fruit expression, silky tannins, a little nougat, mineral echo, very good length. Elegant, continues to climb the quality ladder.
