    Vinum

Pleasantly deep aroma of ripe wild berries and cassis, topped with violet flowers, no perceptible oak; on the palate, straightforward with impressively crisp fruit, ripe tannins, the acidity drives drinkability; a finish of very good length. A very harmonious, elegant wine.

    Decanter

Medium-deep ruby-purple colour; a woody, spicy, smoky nose with floral violet notes in the background. The palate is also very oak-driven, with drying tannins that can soften, good acidity and nice fruit at the core. Good ageing potential. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Certified biodynamic (Biodyvin). Cask sample. Light but finely edged. Fresh, but does lack a bit of stuffing. Slightly drying finish. (JL)

Tobacco, herbs, and red fruits create the perfume. Light, fresh, fruity, and airy, with lift and energy, red currants and cherries come through easily on the palate and in the finish in this lighter, vibrant wine. The blend is 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged entirely in amphora and foudres, with no new French oak involved. Drink from 2028–2038. 88–90 pts

    Le Figaro Vin

Bright red fruits and smokier aromas contribute to a bouquet that is both fleshy and fresh, polished, and rather seductive. Fresh and gentle, the acidity on the palate is pleasing, but the substance is less generous than on the nose.

    Description

    A full-bodied and well-balanced Pessac-Léognan wine

    The estate
Initially developed by Jean-François de Cresse in the 18th century, the Château Haut-Bergey opened a new chapter in its history in 1991 under Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard. Her son, Paul Garcin, currently manages the estate with an artistic and biodynamic approach. The region’s typical gravel soils encourage structured wines, distinguishing this historic property.

    The vineyard
The Château Haut-Bergey vineyard in Pessac-Léognan covers 42 hectares of production. It sits on a sandy-gravel soil with a clay subsoil, typical of the appellation.

    Vinification and aging
Harvesting is done by hand with successive sorting. Vinification is carried out without additives, with gentle extraction in stainless steel cone-shaped tanks. Aging lasts 14 months and takes place in various containers: 3000 L foudres, 700 L amphorae, 1800 L concrete eggs, and stainless steel tanks.

    Blend
The Château Haut-Bergey 2024 is the result of a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot.
