Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Juicy and direct, delivering a delightful burst of apricot, quince paste and glazed peach flavors, laced with honeycomb notes throughout. Features a flicker of ginger on the finish that adds some energy. Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Drink now through 2030.

Decanter

White pear, peach and green apple on the nose alongside some candied lemon notes. This is clean and pure with excellent acidity. Quite expressive and pronounced flavours of sherbet lemon, bright and zesty, with some caramel notes and burnt orange bitter edges. I like the overall feel; it's well balanced and fresh with real clarity. One that is more approachable right now.

Appealing nose of dried mangoes, figs, chamomile, honey, marmalade and ginger. It’s creamy, sweet and luscious, yet fresh. Lovely mango character. Drink or hold.

Antonio Galloni

The 2019 La Tour Blanche is impeccable and delicious. All the elements are so well balanced. Tangerine oil, white flowers, mint, pineapple, orange peel and ginger are all laced together in a rich and creamy white that is not at all heavy.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Pale yellow gold, silver reflections. Delicate grapefruit zest, peach and meadow herbs, a fine touch of honey. Juicy, elegant pineapple fruit, pleasant acidity, an elegant, balanced style, lingering finish, already developed, showing good evolution and definite ageing potential.

Weinwisser

Luminous golden-yellow with green highlights. Seductive bouquet of freshly cooked pear purée, with mirabelle juice, saffron and quince jelly in the background. On the oily palate, a peppery extract and buttery texture, yet elegant and less powerful than usual. The never-ending finish carries an exotic load of mango, papaya and lychee, along with English breakfast marmalade on the aromatic aftertaste. This year it impresses with great finesse, and one can only offer congratulations!

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 La Tour Blanche, 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, is pale lemon-straw in color. A little closed to begin, it opens out to notes of baked apples, peach preserves, and spice cake, followed by wafts of candied ginger, cedar, and candied orange peel. The palate delivers great tension and energy, with a satisfyingly opulent finish.

Le Figaro Vin

The nose reveals delicate notes of white flowers, while on the palate everything is all silkiness, with more exotic, pastry-like notes, a vanilla crunch and candied orange peel. A lovely density counterbalanced by striking tension that carries through to the finish.

Jean-Marc Quarin

While the nose offers lovely, subtle fruity aromas and the raspberry note that often characterizes this wine, the palate seems a bit restrained on this bottle. Medium length.

Jeff Leve

Leve Jeff

Candied orange rind, flowers, spice, overripe pineapple, honey and roasted toffee nuts show on both the nose and palate. Fresh, sweet, vibrant, racy and honeyed, with a long, lemon-tinged, honeyed pineapple finish. Drink from 2023–2045.

Description

A delicious, generous and unctuous First Classified Growth of Sauternes

The estate
Built in the 18th century, Château La Tour Blanche is today home to the La Tour Blanche School of Viticulture and Oenology. A Sauternes First Classified Growth of 1855, the Château La Tour Blanche has belonged to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region since 2010 and has now dedicated itself to education, while also continuing to contribute to the history of the great wines of Sauternes.

The vineyard
The 40 hectares of the estate are situated upon a terroir where two rivers create a morning fog, allowing for the development of botrytis cinerea (noble rot), without which there would be no Bordeaux sweet wines. La Tour Blanche produces elegant wines in the cool tranquility of its cellars, representing the unique characteristics of the appellation.

The vintage
At the Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes Château La Tour Blanche, the 2019 vintage demanded the full attention of the technical teams, standing as a great example of the know-how required for the production of sweet wines from high-quality fruit. The property recorded an excellent harvest for the dry white wines. On the sweet side, noble rot was long overdue, due to a dry September. The first trials began on September 18 and 19 and ended on October 21. The last picking was the most demanding, requiring an extremely rigorous selection of the fruit. For this 2019 vintage, the Château La Tour Blanche required 3 passages in total and revealed a yield of 6.87 hl / ha. The richness of the fruit, their acidity and their aromas rewarded the hard work of the vineyard team with a vintage of excellent quality.

The blend
Sémillon (90%), sauvignon (9,5%), Muscadelle (0,5%).

The tasting
Tasted as a Wine Future, the Sauternes Classified First Growth Château La Tour Blanche 2019 displays an intense and very aromatic nose, marked by citrus and delicate vanilla notes. The attack reveals freshness through beautiful notes of citrus zest, before giving way to a delicious and creamy texture. Bergamot, candied lemon, notes of dried figs, the wine packs the palate with its intense flavours. A nice acidity and notes of toasted almonds are then revealed, bringing relief and length to the very persistent finish. A demanding vintage, 2019 promises to be a great one for the property.
