Tasting

Nose
Nose with intense notes of black cherry and cassis cream, suggesting a beautiful fruit maturity.

Palate
The palate reveals a wilder and more complex universe, between scents of pine forest, resinous effluvia and smoky accents. A floral and root register then invites itself, carried by notes of iris and violet. The subtly saline finish extends the tasting with freshness and refinement.

The property

Founded in 1584, the Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a must-see wine estate in Pessac-Léognan. The vineyard, surrounded by the Eubrion Fountain, extends over a terroir of gravel and clay. After being managed by the Carmes de Notre-Dame for over 200 years, it has been run by the Pichet Group since 2010. The estate stands out for its unique historical heritage and the integration of modern viticultural practices, while preserving its traditional identity.

The vineyard

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 30.75 hectare vineyard, of which 7.60 hectares are dedicated to the Grand Vin. The nearly 40-year-old vines are planted on Mindel gravel on a clay-limestone base.

Vinification and aging

Rigorous sorting of the grapes before vinification in whole bunches up to 52 %. Aging carefully distributed between different containers: 70 % in new barrels to provide structure and complexity, 19 % in 18 hectolitre vats promoting slow and measured oxygenation, and 11 % in amphorae allowing micro-oxygenation while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Blend
48 % cabernet franc, 29% cabernet sauvignon and 23% merlot.
