The 2016 is naturally a little more subdued, but there's aromatic complexity with earthy, dark-fruit notes. The palate is juicy and fresh with good persistence, the tannic frame powerful but the tannins finely honed. This is clearly a wine for ageing and will reward a little patience. The ‘best value’ pick.

Bright flowers and attractive red berries on offer here, with a really succulent, velvety palate that delivers rich red-plum flavors. Long and juicy finish. A blend of 74 percent merlot, 19 percent cabernet franc and seven percent malbec. Try from 2021.

The 2016 Siaurac is silky, perfumed and exceptionally beautiful. Readers will find a restrained Lalande de Pomerol built on finesse and class. Sweet tobacco, menthol, licorice and pretty herbal notes add shades of complexity throughout.

Flowers, chocolate mint and a splash of ripe cherries works here. The wine is medium-bodied, with a touch of smoke, espresso and plums in the soft, silky finish. Give this just a few years in the cellar and enjoy it over the next 12-25 years.

Sweet red fruit, gentle oak, a fine spiciness and floral notes. Medium body with a fresh backbone, ripe tannin, crushed red berry fruit and a rather long finish.

Purple with a violet rim. Fragrant red cherries and wild strawberries, followed by aromatic cassis and violets. Mid-palate shows well-supportive tannins; in the delicately grippy finish, cherry skin and rosewood.

Still somewhat restrained, the bouquet remains elusive. On the palate, it’s the definition of a sanguine, ardent Merlot, with tannins bound by a chain of spices and stone fruit, hinting at superb prospects for distinction.
