    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Smith Haut Lafitte white 2024

    Tasting

    Nose
The nose is expressive with delicate notes of white fruits and citrus such as grapefruit and mandarin. Aromas of white flowers mingle with a precise aromatic freshness, complemented by soft spicy notes evoking star anise and star anise, as well as subtle touches of flint.

    Palate
The attack on the palate is dynamic, marked by a beautiful freshness that balances perfectly with the substance and creaminess. The structure is both powerful and velvety, carried by a fresh tension that extends into a long finish where acidity, freshness and salinity are expressed. The finish is distinguished by its delicacy, precision and aromatic freshness with mineral and spicy accents.

The precision and elegance of a great Pessac-Léognan white wine

    The property

At the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the Château Smith Haut Lafitte is among the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux, with origins dating back to 1365. The acquisition of the property by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990 marks a decisive turning point in its history. Driven by an ambitious vision and a deep passion, the Cathiard couple have raised the estate to the top of the Graves. Today, Smith Haut Lafitte shines internationally thanks to its red and white wines recognized for their refinement and unique signature.

    The vineyard

The vineyard dedicated to Château Smith Haut Lafitte white 2024 benefits from an exceptional terroir in Pessac-Léognan, characterized by Günzian gravels where the roots of the vines can penetrate up to 6 meters deep. The pebbles create a mirror effect that promotes optimal ripening of the grapes. The vines, with an average age of 39 years, are cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture

    Vinification and aging

Manual harvesting in small crates, thus preserving the integrity of the grapes. After inert pressing and cold static settling, fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The aging continues for 12 months on lees in barrels (50% new and 50% having hosted a wine), all made in the estate's integrated cooperage.

    Blend

90% Sauvignon Blanc, bringing freshness and vivacity, complemented by 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Sémillon which contribute to the richness and complexity of the blend.
