Château Suduiraut 2017

Oily and extract-rich in style, thick, somewhat cumbersome, but clean and well made.

This stands a step apart from the pack, showing a range of papaya and mango typical of the vintage, augmented by white peach, nectarine and Anjou pear flavors. It delivers a gorgeous mouthfeel from start to finish, with light jasmine and orange blossom notes infused throughout. Ends with a seductive finish of warmed coconut and piecrust. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2040. 5,833 cases made.

Luscious, rich, fat, sweet and juicy, with multiple layers of ripe and overripe pineapple with apricots, all drenched in honey and vanilla beans. The addition of orange candied fruits and caramel comes in at the end. Racy, sweet, well-defined and fresh, with gorgeous textures, and roasted nuts in the equally sweet, long, honey-filled finish.

The 2017 Chateau Suduiraut is 94% Semillon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc, with 240 grams of residual sugar. It has rocking botrytis notes of honeyed citrus, orange blossom, white flowers, and caramelized peach. These carry to a full-bodied, beautifully pure, precise Sauternes that has good acidity, flawless balance, and just fabulous purity of fruit. It's a brilliant Sauternes.

Kunz barrel sample 18: (94% Sémillon, 6% Sauvignon Blanc, 14% alc./vol., 140 g/L residual sugar, 50% new barriques) Mineral, dense, creamy, complex bouquet: cooked pears, delicate apricot, Alka-Seltzer, grapefruit, candied honey, candied lemons. Concentrated, multi-layered, finely opulent palate with very strong sweetness, fresh, well-integrated acidity, diverse aromatics, creamy, finely opulent structure, very long and generous finish with plenty of lingering flavors.

After Yquem, this is the great success of the vintage: a powerful, spirited Sauternes with a liqueur of great purity that envelops the strength of the Preignac terroir. Not to be missed.

What a complex bouquet! It is clearly youthful, intense, yet also intricate. I detect notes of nougat and caramel, along with appealing fruity tones of apricot and peach. Finally, hints of peppermint underscore the freshness. On the palate, the wine is broad, racy, silky and lively. A wine of character, built to last for decades, and one that calls for patience. An authentic Sauternes!

Logo on the cork: PE (Parramon) Golden yellow color with green highlights. Intense, delicate nose, fruity and almost mineral. Notes of citrus and vanilla when swirled. Precise on the attack, airy in its development, silky and noble to the touch, the wine soars on the finish, long and sappy, with hints of citrus.

Yum. Aromas of orange blossom, lemon curd, dried apricot and cooked pears fill the glass. It’s full-bodied and very sweet, yet tangy and lively from the vibrant acidity. Extremely long on the finish. Better in 2025, but already a joy to taste.

94–96. Barrel Sample. Very concentrated, this is a great wine with rich intensity and balancing acidity. Honey and lemon flavors with a dry core of botrytis give the wine great balance as well as great potential for aging. Drink from 2025.
