Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Yvonne Rouge 2023

Tasting

Nose
The nose reveals a floral bouquet, accompanied by red fruits, enhanced by spicy notes and licorice.

Palate
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and dense, carried by soft, velvety tannins typical of tuffeau limestone. Overall, it offers a harmonious balance between freshness and length.

Food pairing

This Saumur-Champigny pairs ideally with roasted quail with green beans or veal roast with pan-fried potatoes. To finish the meal, it harmonizes perfectly with a Neufchâtel or a Brie de Meaux.

Serving and cellaring

It is recommended to decant Château Yvonne’s Yvonne Rouge 2023 before serving so it can fully open up.

An elegant and velvety red Saumur-Champigny from the Loire

The estate

Founded in 1997 by Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière, Château Yvonne revived a historic winegrowing site in Parnay, in the heart of Saumur-Champigny. Since 2007, Mathieu Vallée has run this 19-hectare estate on the Loire, growing Chenin, Cabernet Franc, and Pineau d'Aunis. Certified organic from the outset, Château Yvonne stands out for its minimalist approach, emphasizing hand harvesting, indigenous yeasts, and spontaneous fermentation.

The vineyard

Yvonne Rouge is a Saumur-Champigny wine from clay-limestone soils resting on Turonian limestone, the famous tuffeau. The parcels are mainly located in Parnay and Turquant. Since 1997, the estate has practiced ECOCERT-certified organic farming with manual soil work, without herbicides, insecticides, or anti-rot treatments.

The wine

This cuvée has been produced since 1997 and is the estate’s first red wine.

Vinification and aging

4-week maceration in truncated-cone 38-hL tanks, with no yeast additions. 24-month aging, including 12 months in Barriques (20% new) and 12 months in concrete tanks. Bottling takes place in August 2025 on a fruit day under a descending moon.

Grape variety

This red wine from the Loire is 100% Cabernet Franc.
