Description
The refinement and balance of a superb Grand Cru from Saint-Émilion
The estate
A prestigious reference of the Saint-Émilion appellation, the Clos des Jacobins takes its name from the Benedictine preaching monks who welcomed pilgrims on the routes of St. James of Compostela. Since 2004, Clos des Jacobins has been owned by Thibaut and Magali Decoster.
The vineyard
Since the 17th century, the 8.3-hectare vineyard of this Grand Cru Classé has been in a single block in the heart of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Located at the foot of the slope and benefiting from an excellent southern exposure, the vines, averaging 30 years of age, are planted on an excellent limestone terroir. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable agriculture.
Blend
Merlot (98%), Cabernet Franc (2%).
Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations for the Clos des Jacobins 2017
Tasting
Nose
With a superbly nuanced aromatic bouquet, Clos des Jacobins 2017 opens with intense notes of ripe fruit, raspberry and licorice, delicately sculpted by aromas of dried flowers.
Palate
With precision and refinement, the wine delivers a superbly dense and elegant texture, revealing the finesse of well-structured tannins with a tight grain. The mid-palate does not lose its presence and displays the crunch of fruit, stretching into the length of a flavorful and persistent finish. A very lovely vintage that positions this vintage for the most promising maturation over the coming years of cellaring.
