Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Clos Naudin Demi-Sec 2022
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a pale, luminous golden hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of citrus fruits, such as grapefruit and blood orange, accompanied by scents of white fruits and white flowers. Touches of honeyed orchard fruits and candied stone fruits complete this profile.
Palate
The attack offers lovely freshness along with notable breadth. The palate is underpinned by a crisp, lemony acidity, balancing the purity of the fruity aromas. The finish lingers on a mineral backbone, letting floral and citrus nuances come through.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with sweet-and-savoury dishes such as curry, roast pork with fruit, or lamb tagine. It also complements seafood, such as ceviche, sushi, or fish with beurre blanc, as well as characterful cheeses like cumin-spiced Munster.
Service and storage
With its solid acidic structure, this Demi-Sec 2022 can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2052.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13.6% vol., a pH of 3.14, and a sweetness level of 21.0 g/L of residual sugar, placing it in the demi-sec category.
The pure expression of Chenin Blanc on the Vouvray terroir
The estate
Founded in 1910 by Armand Foreau, Domaine du Clos Naudin is a historic name in the Loire Valley. From its inception, the founder set about manually digging a cellar into the tuffeau stone, a project completed sixty years later. Today, Vincent Foreau, representing the fourth generation, runs this family estate of around 12 hectares. The estate stands out for its mastery of the local grape variety and its philosophy centred on respecting natural balances, producing wines that faithfully reflect the identity of their terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the north-east of the Vouvray appellation, the vineyard spans the renowned plots of Les Perruches and Les Ruettes, on the Première Côte. The vines, averaging 45 years of age, benefit from south, south-east and south-west exposures. They are planted on clay-siliceous soils composed of greenish clay and flint, resting on a bedrock of limestone tuffeau. The estate follows organic farming principles, without herbicides or insecticides, with hand-harvesting carried out in successive passes.
The vintage
2022 proved to be a particularly favourable year, offering conditions conducive to the growing cycle. These factors allowed the berries to reach an optimal natural level of ripeness at harvest.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this Demi-Sec 2022 is rooted in a minimalist philosophy, with no chaptalisation whatsoever. Fermentation takes place naturally over about two months, at a controlled temperature of 16 degrees, in 300-litre barrels renewed at a rate of 5% per year. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately blocked to preserve freshness. The wine is then aged in barrels for 6 to 8 months before being bottled the following spring.
