Description
An ample and intense dry white from the Loire, born of an exceptional terroir
The Estate
It was in 2018 that Ivan Massonnat, an enlightened connoisseur of great wines, took over Domaine Pithon-Paillé, founded by Jo Pithon. Renamed Domaine Belargus, this vineyard in Anjou now covers 24 hectares farmed entirely biodynamically. The estate stands out for a parcel-based production drawn from meticulously selected crus, lieux-dits and monopoles, with the pure, mineral expression of chenin blanc—the Loire’s emblematic grape variety—as its guiding principle.
The Vineyard
The Rouères cuvée is produced from a parcel of nearly 3 hectares, located on one of the three historic sites of Anjou mentioned in the founding decree of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation. Benefiting from a southeast exposure on the crest of this prestigious terroir, this parcel lies on impoverished, stony puddingstone soils capable of storing heat by day and releasing it at night, promoting optimal grape ripeness.
Blend
This 2021 Rouères cuvée is 100% chenin blanc.
