Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Domaine de Cambes 2022
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a deep, dark purple hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of plum and blackberry jam. It then develops touches of cedar, camphor and smoked meat, complemented by floral nuances, liquorice and chocolate mint.
Palate
Dense and ample, the palate offers a silky texture of great delicacy. The tannins, though robust in their youth, display remarkable finesse. The palate reveals deep aromas of black fruits, kirsch-soaked cherries and plums, underscored by a hint of aniseed. The natural freshness balances this rich body, leading to a long, earthy and elegant finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted meats, lamb or a flavoursome cut of beef. It also goes wonderfully with duck breast, poultry risotto, mushroom dishes such as cèpes à la bordelaise, as well as mature cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
Domaine de Cambes 2022 can be enjoyed from 2027 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2038. For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C.
The authentic expression of a Bordeaux terroir
The estate
Acquired in 1988 by François Mitjavile, Domaine de Cambes is a wine estate located in the Bourg wine-growing area. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a second wine, but rather a cuvée in its own right, born of a distinct terroir. Today, the estate is still owned by François and Émilie Mitjavile. The family upholds a philosophy centred on the authentic expression of the terroir, eschewing official classifications in favour of a qualitative approach based on the optimal ripeness of the grapes.
The vineyard
Located along the Gironde estuary, this Bordeaux vineyard benefits from a climate tempered by the proximity of the river, which also enriches the soils with its silts. The terroir is distinguished by clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of clay. This composition helps maintain a natural freshness that is ideal for late harvests. The vines are tended using traditional and sustainable methods, with deliberately limited yields.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand at full phenolic ripeness, followed by meticulous sorting of the berries both on the vine and in the cellar. Vinification favours a slow and minimal extraction. Domaine de Cambes 2022 then benefits from aging in new French oak barrels. This maturation takes place in a temperate cellar without air conditioning, encouraging regular oxygen exchange to allow a harmonious development of the flavours.
Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
