Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the "Le Pied de la Butte" 2024 Domaine de la Butte
Tasting
Colour
Of moderate intensity, the colour reveals a bright ruby red hue.
Nose
The bouquet opens with pure aromas of fresh red fruits, dominated by cherry and raspberry. It is enriched with delicate floral and spicy notes, complemented by subtle herbaceous nuances typical of the grape variety.
Palate
The attack is lively, carried by a lovely tangy freshness. The palate reveals itself silky and perfectly balanced, offering flavours of juicy strawberry and ripe berries, enhanced by a hint of orange zest. The tannins, smooth and moderate, accompany a finish of lovely persistence.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with lean red meats such as filet mignon, grilled poultry, or spicy dishes such as a lamb tajine. It also goes very well with wild mushrooms, roasted vegetables, or soft-rind cheeses.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve the "Le Pied de la Butte" 2024 cuvée at a temperature of around 16°C, after allowing it to breathe for 30 to 45 minutes. Approachable from today, this wine can be cellared until around 2029.
Other characteristics
This wine has a moderate alcohol level of 12.5%, achieved naturally without any recourse to chaptalization.
The elegance and freshness of a Bourgueil wine
The estate
Founded in 2002 by the visionary Jacky Blot, Domaine de la Butte quickly established itself as an essential reference in the Loire region of France. Since the passing of its founder in 2023, his son, Jean-Philippe Blot, has been at the helm of the estate. He skilfully continues the family philosophy centred on respect for the terroir and minimal-intervention winemaking. The estate stands out for its production of red wines of great finesse, made using certified organic practices.
The vineyard
Spanning approximately 16 hectares, the vineyard enjoys a privileged position on the south-facing hillsides of the Bourgueil appellation. The vines dedicated to this cuvée, around 35 years old, thrive on soils composed of clay and flint resting on a limestone bedrock. The estate follows the principles of organic farming, favouring ploughing and excluding all chemical weeding in order to preserve biodiversity and the authentic expression of the terroir.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly demanding climatic conditions in the region, with periods of rain, mildew pressure, and generally cool temperatures. Fortunately, the vines were spared from spring frosts. Despite these challenges, the plots managed to make the most of their environment to produce grapes of lovely maturity and remarkable balance.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. After destemming, fermentation of the "Le Pied de la Butte" 2024 begins with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. To preserve optimal vibrancy, malolactic fermentation is blocked and no lees stirring (bâtonnage) is carried out. Aging then takes place in a blend of concrete vessels and old barrels. True to its natural approach, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
