Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes' 2024 Morgon
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals an intense ruby red hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens candidly with notes of red berries and prune, subtly complemented by delicate touches of stone fruit.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a round, flavourful and perfectly balanced texture. Its vibrant fruity freshness harmonises with tannins of great elegance, delivering a lively and gourmand sensation.
Food and wine pairing
To bring out the full richness of this cuvée, opt for dishes with bold flavours. This red wine will pair beautifully with a rib of beef in a shallot and raspberry sauce, pork ribs or a platter of matured cheeses. It will also work wonders alongside local charcuterie, grilled sausages, coq au vin, roasted vegetables, as well as poultry, pasta or risotto.
Service and storage
This 2024 Morgon shows great aging potential and can be expected to develop favourably in the cellar until around 2034. For optimal storage, it is recommended to keep it in a dark, slightly humid place at a constant temperature of 12°C.
The authentic expression of Beaujolais by Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes
The estate
Established in France in 1712 at the heart of Beaujolais, Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes is a historic figure of Villié-Morgon. Today, the eighth generation, embodied by Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît Desvignes, passionately runs this 13-hectare vineyard. Staunch defenders of local traditions, they have led the estate towards organic certification, guaranteeing environmentally responsible practices. The estate stands out for its commitment to producing authentic wines built for aging, fully vinified and bottled on-site, thus reflecting the essence of their terroir.
The vineyard
This emblematic Morgon cuvée comes from the Douby plot. The vines, averaging 45 to 60 years old, thrive on soils typical of the appellation, composed of decomposed sandy granite. This demanding terroir, rich in minerality, allows the vines to draw deep to yield grapes of remarkable quality.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly unpredictable weather. After a mild end to winter, spring proved exceptionally wet and cool, delaying the growing cycle and creating strong disease pressure. Summer began with rain before giving way to a hot, dry August, offering welcome relief. A cool September closed out the season, requiring patience and rigour to reach full ripeness in the berries.
Winemaking and aging
True to a philosophy of minimal intervention, the cellar favours traditional methods. After rigorous sorting of the bunches, the 2024 Morgon undergoes an extended aging period of around ten months in concrete tanks. This patient process preserves the fruit's full freshness while giving the wine elegant structure.
Grape variety
100% Gamay.
