Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of "Coteau de Noiré" 2023 Domaine Philippe Alliet

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep purple hue, particularly dark and almost tending towards black, evidencing a fine concentration.

Nose
Initially marked by a majestic restraint, the bouquet opens up on aeration to reveal a flamboyant complexity. It exhales intense aromas of wild black fruits mingled with notes of liquorice, fresh leather and balsamic, all enhanced by subtle floral, mineral, musk and camphor touches.

Palate
Underpinned by an exceptional structure and noble, fine, perfectly integrated tannins, the palate offers a velvety texture devoid of astringency. Flavours of wild black fruits, ripe strawberry and black olive are balanced by a fine mineral tension, drawing the wine towards a saline finish of interminable persistence.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as wild boar stew with truffles, game, venison or a fine piece of braised beef. It will also enhance mushroom sauce dishes as well as mature hard cheeses.

Service and storage

To release its full aromatic complexity, it is advisable to decant the "Coteau de Noiré" 2023 before serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Built for long cellar ageing, this wine can be enjoyed from 2026 and will continue to improve until around 2043.

The pure and profound expression of a great Chinon terroir

The estate

Established in 1978 in France, Domaine Philippe Alliet is a key reference in the Loire Valley. Located in Cravant-les-Côteaux, this 19-hectare family estate is now run by Philippe and Claude Alliet, joined by their son Pierre. A pioneer in the qualitative approach to its appellation, the estate stands out for its demanding organic viticulture, limited yields and careful ageing. Domaine Philippe Alliet thus produces wines of rare density, inspiring an entire generation of winegrowers.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from an iconic two-hectare plot located on the eastern hillsides of the commune of Chinon. Facing due south on a vertiginous slope reaching 40% incline, the vines flourish on clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils. This exceptional configuration, worked entirely by hand, gives the grapes a sun-drenched ripeness perfectly balanced by great mineral freshness.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by particularly sunny weather. These warm climatic conditions were perfectly managed by the estate's team, allowing the growing cycle to result in berries of exceptional concentration and precision.

Winemaking and ageing

The 2023 "Coteau de Noiré" grapes are harvested entirely by hand. After meticulous sorting, the grapes are fully destemmed. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, followed by a three-week skin maceration punctuated by gentle pump-overs. Ageing extends over a total period of 24 months: an initial phase of 12 months in concrete vats, followed by 12 months in 500-litre barrels, 80% of which are new oak.
