Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pinot Noir "La Colline du Château" 2023 from Domaine Weinbach
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine displays a vibrant red colour with luminous reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate floral notes reminiscent of rose petals, harmoniously blended with aromas of black fruits such as plum and blackcurrant. Subtle hints of sweet spices and perfectly integrated oak round off this rich olfactory palette.
Palate
The attack is wonderfully fresh, carried by silky tannins of great finesse. The mid-palate reveals a vibrant fruitiness centred on redcurrant and tangy raspberry, enhanced by a touch of grapefruit. The mineral and saline imprint of the terroir extends towards a persistent, pure and remarkably balanced finish.
Food and wine pairings
This Domaine Weinbach Pinot Noir "La Colline du Château" pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, pan-seared duck breast or herb-seasoned pork dishes. It will also enhance aged goat cheeses or delicately creamed seafood dishes.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine between 12 and 14°C, after decanting for approximately two hours. This Domaine Weinbach Pinot Noir "La Colline du Château" 2023 is a wine with great potential and a fine capacity for evolution in the cellar.
The mineral elegance of a great Alsace wine by Domaine Weinbach
The estate
Founded in 1612 by Capuchin monks, Domaine Weinbach is an essential historical figure located in Kientzheim, in the heart of the Alsace wine region in France. Today led by Catherine Faller, supported by her sons Théo and Eddy, the estate carries on a family heritage of excellence. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in the region since the late 1990s, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its commitment to conveying the purest expression of its terroirs through cuvées of great authenticity.
The vineyard
This Alsace wine comes from the "Au Château" lieu-dit, a hillside parcel nestled on the slopes of the prestigious Grand Cru Schlossberg. Resting on a granitic bedrock that gives the wine its distinctive minerality, these vines were planted in the 1960s from pre-clonal massal selections. The vineyard is entirely cultivated according to biodynamic principles, thereby promoting biodiversity and the natural balance of the soils.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by particularly dry conditions throughout the growing cycle. While this lack of water posed a challenge for some areas, the deep granitic soils of the hillsides managed to retain sufficient moisture. These weather conditions yielded concentrated berries with a fine, ripe acidity.
Vinification and ageing
The making of Domaine Weinbach Pinot Noir "La Colline du Château" 2023 begins with exclusively manual harvesting. Vinification incorporates 20% whole bunches and starts with a one-week cold maceration to gently extract colour and aromas. This is followed by a traditional two-week maceration punctuated by daily pump-overs, using indigenous yeasts. Ageing then takes place over fourteen months in 228-litre Burgundian oak barrels, including 20% new wood.
Grape variety
100% pinot noir.
