Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Riesling Grand Cru "Brand" 2024 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a straw-yellow hue, both pale and crystalline.

Nose
Discreet and complex, the nose reveals aromas of ripe fruit such as peach, apricot and white lemon, accompanied by delicate floral notes and wet stone. With aeration, hints of pear, pink grapefruit and bergamot emerge.

Palate
The palate stands out for its dense texture and vibrancy. It offers remarkable mineral and saline tension, supported by an electric acidity. The finish is long, dry and subtly spiced.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs ideally with poached fish, sushi or seafood. It also goes wonderfully well with spicy Asian dishes, white meats or aged cheeses such as old Comté.

Service and storage

Blessed with excellent potential, this Riesling Grand Cru "Brand" 2024 deserves to age further in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2039.

Other characteristics

This dry white wine stands out for its dual organic and biodynamic certification, as well as a moderate alcohol level that highlights its finesse.

The mineral precision of a great white wine from Alsace

The estate

The family's winemaking history dates back to 1620, but Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was officially founded in 1959 following the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind. Located in Alsace, this prestigious 40-hectare estate is now run by Olivier Humbrecht, the first Frenchman to become a Master of Wine, supported by his son Pierre-Émile. A pioneer in environmental stewardship, the estate stands out for its early conversion to biodynamics, certified since 2002, and its commitment to letting each terroir express itself with the utmost authenticity.

The vineyard

The Grand Cru Brand, meaning "land of fire", is a terroir of around 2.5 hectares located in Turckheim, in Alsace. Facing south to south-east on steep slopes, the century-old vines, planted in the 1920s, thrive on a soil composed of pure granite, quartz and black biotite. This warm, dry microclimate, sheltered from northerly winds, encourages deep rooting and optimal ripening of the grapes.

The vintage

2024 unfolded under the influence of a particularly wet season. This excessive rainfall led to strong pressure from fungal diseases, such as mildew, impacting the growing cycle and causing a general reduction in yields. Nevertheless, rigorous vineyard monitoring in the face of these colder, more stressful conditions enabled the harvest to be brought in with excellent health.

Winemaking and aging

The estate's philosophy is based on minimal intervention for this Riesling Grand Cru "Brand" 2024. After gentle, extended pressing, the must undergoes brief clarification to preserve the indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. Aging continues on the lees for 12 to 15 months in old wooden foudres and 40-year-old French oak barrels, with no additives.
