Description
A fresh and elegant fine wine from Mendoza by El Enemigo
The estate
Born of a shared passion, the El Enemigo brand was officially founded in 2007. This winemaking project, located in the renowned Mendoza region of Argentina, is run by its two current owners, Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, who is also the winemaker. The estate stands out for its commitment to combining a rigorous scientific approach with a genuine expression of terroir. By exploring high-altitude landscapes, it quickly built a strong international reputation, crafting wines that faithfully reflect the identity and memory of their place of origin.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the Agrelo district in Luján de Cuyo, in the heart of Mendoza province. The vines grow at an altitude of 930 metres on clay soils. Planting density is particularly high, reaching 10,000 vines per hectare.
The vintage
2022 is regarded as an exceptional year in the region. Weather conditions and the growing cycle produced remarkable concentration and perfectly ripe polyphenols, together with an ideal alcohol balance and optimal acidity. Winemaker Alejandro Vigil even describes it as the finest harvest he has ever known.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft El Enemigo 2022, the process begins with a three-day cold maceration. Fermentation then takes place in concrete vats at an average temperature of 23°C, with 20% whole clusters. This is followed by a forty-day infusion with minimal handling. Finally, the wine is aged for fifteen months, exclusively in concrete vats.
Grape varieties
El Enemigo's Gran Enemigo "Agrelo" 2022 is a blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Malbec.
