Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Amoureuses" 2022 from Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Appearance
This red wine displays an intense ruby hue verging on deep cherry, while retaining lovely clarity and a brilliant sheen.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of ripe red and black fruits such as raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by floral touches of peony and violet. With aeration, subtle nuances of truffle, forest floor and sweet spices emerge.
Palate
Full and generous, the palate offers a silky, velvety texture supported by exceptionally refined tannins. Freshness and fruit intensity are in perfect balance, leading to a long, harmonious finish of remarkable delicacy.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with fine poultry such as roast pigeon or duck confit, as well as with feathered game. It is also an ideal match for a truffle risotto or a platter of mature soft-rind cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Decanting may be beneficial in its youth. This wine can be enjoyed after a few years in the cellar, but will continue to develop gracefully until around 2047.
The Finesse and Complexity of a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru by Joseph Drouhin
The Estate
Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is an iconic name in Burgundy. This family estate, a pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture, now covers around one hundred hectares stretching from the north to the south of the region. Currently led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, the house stands out for its deep respect for terroir and its constant pursuit of precision. Its wines perfectly express the identity of their appellations, combining historic heritage with a demanding environmental approach.
The Vineyard
Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the climat from which this wine comes lies in the village of Chambolle-Musigny, just below the famous Grand Cru Musigny. The vines thrive on deep, perfectly drained clay-limestone soils, partly worked by horse. Farmed entirely according to organic and biodynamic principles, this terroir benefits from high planting density and natural grass cover, encouraging rich biodiversity and deep rooting.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked by particularly hot and sunny weather. These summer conditions promoted excellent ripeness in the grapes, calling for great vigilance when setting the harvest dates in order to preserve the balance and freshness of the berries.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand into small perforated crates. Vinification includes a proportion of whole bunches, which varies as required. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts in small open vats, punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs over two to three weeks. After a gentle pressing, the wine is aged for fourteen to eighteen months in French oak barrels, a quarter of them new, made from wood air-dried for several years.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir
