The finesse and elegance of a white wine from Puligny-Montrachet
The estate
Founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin has established itself as a leading name in Burgundy. Originally a négociant house, it gradually built up a vast estate that now covers nearly 100 hectares, stretching from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture since the late 1980s, the estate is currently run by the fourth generation of the family: Frédéric, Philippe, Véronique and Laurent Drouhin. Together, they carry on a family expertise centred on the constant pursuit of elegance and the authentic expression of terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the Puligny-Montrachet appellation lies on limestone terroir that is ideal for vine growth. The soils, composed of a stony matrix mixed with ochre clays, ensure excellent drainage while allowing the vines to root deeply. The plots are planted at high density, which promotes concentration in the berries. True to its environmental philosophy, the estate follows biodynamic principles, including ploughing by horse and the use of natural composts, to preserve the vitality of this emblematic terroir.
Vinification and ageing
The making of this Puligny-Montrachet Village 2024 begins with meticulous hand harvesting. The whole bunches undergo very slow pneumatic pressing to extract the purest juice, followed by natural settling by gravity. Fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then transferred directly into French oak barrels made from wood air-dried for three years. Ageing lasts around 12 months, with light lees stirring and a moderate proportion of new barrels to preserve the brightness of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
