The estate
Steeped in history since 1513 with Pierre-Étienne Mellot in Sancerre, Maison Joseph Mellot today cultivates 100 hectares of vines in the Central Loire. Managed since 2005 by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot alongside her sons Armand and Adrien, this family House perpetuates know-how passed down for over five centuries. The only grower-producer present in the eight Central Loire AOCs, Joseph Mellot mainly cultivates Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
The vineyard
The La Chatellenie cuvée comes from an 18-hectare vineyard planted on the flinty clay soils characteristic of Sancerre. The vines, aged 25 years on average, are managed using sustainable agriculture with environmentally friendly mechanical soil tillage.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a very mild winter leading to very early budburst. Spring was temperate but particularly rainy, generating strong mildew pressure. Summer remained temperate and rather humid. The harvest took place in early October in a very cool and relatively rainy climate.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest for La Chatellenie 2024 was carried out mechanically in early October. The grapes underwent direct pressing in a pneumatic press with juice selection, followed by cold settling. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Ageing was carried out on fine lees in stainless steel vats, thus preserving the freshness and minerality of the wine.
Grape variety
This Loire white wine is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc
