An exceptional Sauternes wine combining concentration and freshness
The property
Located in Barsac, at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château Doisy-Daëne has belonged to the Dubourdieu family since 1924. Three generations of winemakers have succeeded each other at the head of this Second Cru Classé in 1855, perpetuating the art of producing some of the most renowned sweet wines in Bordeaux. Since the year 2000, Denis Dubourdieu has continued this family story by managing the estate. L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is an emblematic wine produced only in great vintages.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Doisy-Daëne extends over the Barsac plateau, within the Sauternes appellation, benefiting from a unique geological terroir. The soil is made up of a thin layer of clayey sands, known as "red sands of Barsac", resting on a limestone base. This limestone, both porous and draining, plays an essential role in regulating the vine's water supply thanks to the water accumulated during the winter. It is in this privileged environment that wines of remarkable finesse, a signature of the estate, are born.
The wine
Created in 1990, L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is an exceptional cuvée, the result of an experimental approach initiated by Denis Dubourdieu. The winemaker wanted to explore the limits of making a sweet wine from Sauvignon Blanc affected by noble rot and harvested at a stage of extreme concentration. The grapes, harvested at the beginning of November, had exceptional sugar richness, high alcoholic potential, and an extraordinary aromatic intensity. Since its creation, this cuvée has only been produced in exceptional vintages, in very limited quantities, from the estate's historic plots.
Vinification and aging
This cuvée is made from grapes harvested grain by grain in the estate's historic plots. The particularly long pressing (8 to 10 hours) allows for the gentle extraction of the most concentrated juices. Fermentation then takes place in 100% new French oak barrels, followed by careful aging that preserves the balance between richness and freshness.
