Bright vivid fruits here, as is so often the case with La Chapelle, iris and peony fragrance, arresting mix of finesse and concentration, skilful construction. Early flowering around May 17, and no rain from flowering until mid-June, when 63mm fell in three hours, very helpful because then almost no rain until the end of August, with 41 days above 32C, all of which shows why they had 27hl/ha yield. Jean-Philippe Masclef last vintage before retirement. Harvest August 27 to September 19. 14% new oak. 3.78ph

Precision and detail stand out right from the start in Chapelle’s bouquet, with notes of red berries and a hint of mint that underscores its freshness. Elegant and velvety, the wine unfolds in a linear progression. It is perfectly supported by its tannins, which bring depth and energy. A charming, inviting wine that can already be enjoyed in its youth.

Deep, intense, beautiful red color. A sumptuous nose—intense, refined, fruity, and so distinctive. A magnificent aroma of raspberries slow-cooked in a cauldron. Precise on the attack, very aromatic through the mid-palate, with a fine, silky richness coating the palate and that slight, positive austerity that tickles the finish, this wine works wonders thanks to its complex, deep aromatic persistence. Bravo! Blend: 52.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.3% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 1.1% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13.05% - pH: 3.78. Yield: 23.2 hl/ha.

Description

Tasting Notes and Characteristics of La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2025

Tasting

Appearance
Deep red with bright, profound reflections.

Nose
Elegant and floral, it opens with notes of rose and peony before giving way to crisp fresh fruits — blackcurrant and redcurrant — of beautiful vivacity.

Palate
The attack is forthright and fleshy, carried by a juicy, generous fruitiness characteristic of Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannic framework, solid and promising, structures a palate with accents of raspberry and cocoa, rounded off by beautiful bitter notes on the finish.

The Structure and Aromatic Framework of a Red Second Wine from Pessac-Léognan

The Estate

A direct neighbour of the renowned Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion has stood for several centuries as a major reference of the Bordeaux vineyards. Founded in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family, the estate was later entrusted to the congregation of Lazarist priests. Today part of Domaine Clarence Dillon under the leadership of Prince Robert of Luxembourg, it remains one of the flagship addresses among the great growths of Bordeaux.

The Vineyard

The vines of Château La Mission Haut-Brion extend across the communes of Talence and Pessac, anchored in a terroir of deep gravels resting on a subsoil of clay, sand, limestone and falun, a shelly limestone rock. This exceptional terroir gives rise to Pessac-Léognan wines of great aromatic richness and solid ageing potential.

The Wine

Produced in very limited quantities, La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is the Second Wine of the estate. This cuvée offers a wonderful invitation to discover the refined world of Château La Mission Haut-Brion. Its name pays tribute to the Lazarist priests of La Mission, who were already shaping this vineyard in the 18th century.

The Vintage

The year 2025 was marked by extreme weather conditions. The cycle led to particularly early harvests, which began under the sign of heat before being slowed by a period of drought. The saving rains of September made it possible to reach a perfect balance. Although the berries proved rare and tiny, they displayed exceptional concentration, heralding a vintage of grandiose potential.

Vinification and Ageing

Ageing is carried out in barrels, including 14% new oak. Alcohol content: 13.1%.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (52.6%), Merlot (28.3%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Petit Verdot (1.1%).
