Decanter

Freshly picked blackcurrant fruit on the nose. Lovely juiciness here, some ripe tannins that coat the mouth but the fruit is there. Richly scented and quite a mouthful of fruit, acidity and wood—less in the flavor than in the structure, the overall frame and the heavy finish. Not sure about the alcohol here. Good cooling freshness, but it stops a bit short. Wood/oak tannins shutting it down. Chalky texture. Just doesn’t quite hold up in terms of balance. Nice presentation.

Sweet berries and cherries with some crushed stones and cloves. Hints of tar, too. It’s medium- to full-bodied and grows on the palate with lots of berry and wet-earth character. Long and flavorful. Try after 2024.

Deep in color, the wine is ripe, rich, lush and packed with espresso-tinged dark chocolate, black plums and black cherries. Rich, opulently textured, full-bodied and loaded with layers of ripe, sweet, exuberant fruits, this Pomerol look-alike wine needs a few years in the bottle to integrate all of its elements. It will be worth the wait. Drink from 2025-2038.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate bright rim. Layered with a hint of cassis and liquorice, blackberry jam, floral nuances, delicate fine wood savouriness in the background. Juicy, elegant texture, ripe cherries, fine, ripe tannins, has freshness and length, mineral appeal, very good development potential, a versatile companion at the table.

The 2019 Château La Fleur De Boüard Le Plus is the flagship from this château, and it's a beauty! Deep purple-hued, with a great nose of cassis, ripe black cherries, Asian spices, and lead pencil, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a lively, elegant mouthfeel, good acidity, and a gorgeous finish. While this cuvée was richer and made in a riper, sexier style in the past, this 2019 shows the more elegant, seamless style of modern Bordeaux beautifully.

Note that for the past two vintages, its tannic power has been lighter than it used to be. 100% Merlot.

The estate
The second wine of Château La Fleur de Boüard, Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard 2019 reveals the aromatic expression of the very beautiful Lalande de Pomerol terroir, an appellation located on the right bank of the Bordeaux region.

The vineyard
The Château La Fleur de Boüard vineyard covers 34.2 hectares of vines aged 25 years on average. The latter are planted in clayey-sandy and clayey-gravelly soils. The Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is made from a selection of 60-year-old vines planted on a gravelly outcropping with 15 to 20% clay.

The winemaking
Pre-fermentation maceration from 8 to 10 ° C. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 4 to 6 weeks. Vinification in barrels. Malolactic fermentation in barrels.

The ageing
Ageing on the lees. 33 months in French oak barrels, no fining, no filtration, 100% new barrels.
