An exceptional Barolo from the historic terroirs of Piedmont

The property

Founded in the 19th century by the Falletti family, Marchesi di Barolo is a pillar of Piedmontese wine, located in the Barolo region, Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today led by Anna and Ernesto Abbona, with their children Valentina and Davide, the house perpetuates a winemaking tradition combining heritage and innovation. The estate extends over 120 hectares, with sustainable practices and a focus on nebbiolo. Unique in its right to display the royal coat of arms, Marchesi di Barolo is recognized for its founding role in the creation of modern Barolo.

The vineyard

This Barolo Riserva comes exclusively from vines located in the municipality of Barolo, at the heart of the appellation. The soils, particularly rich in clay and limestone, give the wine its characteristic structure and exceptional aging capacity. This unique composition of the terroir, combined with the ideal exposure of the plots, allows the nebbiolo to reach optimal maturity while preserving its freshness and aromatic finesse.

The vintage

The 1982 vintage began with a cool and rainy spring, with unfavorable weather conditions during flowering. The summer proved to be hot, followed by a dry autumn that allowed perfect maturation of the grapes. The harvest, carried out in early October, yielded grapes with high sugar content and perfectly ripe polyphenols. This vintage is considered exceptional, with limited production but of remarkable quality.

Vinification and aging

For this Barolo Riserva 1982, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before a temperature-controlled fermentation between 30 and 32°C. The first racking was carried out after 14 days, followed by a spontaneous malolactic fermentation in the spring. This great wine was then aged in large traditional barrels before being bottled in 1988. In 2011, the corks were replaced to ensure optimal preservation of this oenological treasure.
