Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 by Santa Rita
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals a deep ruby red hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet expresses intense notes of blackcurrant, ripe cherries and black fruits. The whole is subtly enhanced by hints of spice, graphite and delicate herbaceous touches.
Palate
On the palate, this wine shows itself to be perfectly structured and balanced. It offers fine-grained tannins along with persistent acidity. The finish is long, revealing itself to be precise, wonderfully fresh and imbued with minerality.
Food and wine pairing
This great red wine will pair beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a fine beef entrecôte or a herb-crusted rack of lamb. It will also go very well with rich sauce-based dishes or game.
Serving and cellaring
Boasting excellent ageing potential, the Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 can be laid down in the cellar for many years, allowing it to develop its full aromatic complexity.
The elegance of a great cabernet sauvignon from Maipo Valley by Santa Rita
The estate
Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha, Santa Rita is an emblematic figure of Chilean winemaking, located in the renowned Maipo Valley, at the heart of the Central Valley. Today, the estate is led by María Luisa Vial de Claro, through the Claro Vial Foundation. Recognised worldwide, this prestigious brand stands out for its exceptional historical heritage, classified as a national monument, and its strong commitment to sustainability. Blending tradition with cutting-edge technology, the estate crafts internationally renowned wines that reflect the full richness and complexity of South America's greatest terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from a historic 20-hectare vineyard located in the Carneros Viejo and Población sectors, in Alto Jahuel. This exceptional terroir, nestled in the Alto Maipo Valley sub-region, sits on ancient alluvial terraces. These poor, well-drained soils, composed of gravel, sand and silt, offer ideal conditions for growing vines, encouraging deep rooting and optimal berry concentration.
The wine
The 2023 vintage features a new "Casa Real" capsule rather than "Santa Rita", as had previously been the case; the four-leaf clover, an element present on the label as well as in the Casa Real chapel, is now subtly associated with the brand.
The vintage
The 2022–2023 season stood out for temperatures above the usual averages, favouring excellent concentration in the grapes. The particularly hot and dry conditions in February and March accelerated the ripening process. As a result, harvesting took place early, running from 8 February to 8 March.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, the grapes are hand-harvested before undergoing a rigorous double sorting. Fermentation is accompanied by a tailored pump-over programme, initially intense then gentler, to favour finesse. After draining, the wine is pressed in a basket press to preserve its structure and aromatic expression. Finally, ageing takes place over 18 months in French oak barrels, comprising 70% new barrels and 30% second-fill barrels.
Grape variety
This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
