Characteristics and tasting advice for Ledaig 18 Years 1st Fill Sherry Hogshead Itineraries Collection Gordon & MacPhail 2007

Tasting

Nose
Earthy, ashy, terpene-like and telluric evoking lava, the nose reveals a powdery dimension reminiscent of rice. The smoke is accompanied by medicinal and saline notes, lifted by camphor, lemon and honey. Mineral touches of slate mingle with malty, oily aromas with root-like accents. Notes of wildflowers bring a rustic, countryside character to the whole.

Palate
Lively and powerful, the palate is initially coated with a thick layer of ash and smoke. It then reveals vanilla, candied lemon, acacia honey and génépi. The finish expresses itself on an incandescent peat, medicinal and oily.

A rich and powerful peated Highland single malt

Ledaig, a historic distillery on the Isle of Mull

Founded in 1798 by John Sinclair on the Isle of Mull, Ledaig represents the peated expression of the Tobermory distillery, the only producer of Scotch whisky (Highlands) on this Inner Hebrides island. After a turbulent history marked by closures, the distillery regained stability following its acquisition by Burn Stewart in 1993, then its integration within Distell Group Limited in 2013. It produces alternately, six months per year, Ledaig (peated) and six months Tobermory (unpeated). Equipped with four stills fitted with boil balls, the distillery offers official bottlings that are non-chill filtered, with emblematic 10- and 18-year expressions that showcase a robust maritime character and pronounced peat.

Ledaig 18 Years 2007: an exceptional single cask by Gordon & MacPhail

This Ledaig 18 Years 2007 is part of Gordon & MacPhail’s Itineraries collection, a Scottish house renowned for its exceptional single cask bottlings. Distilled in 2007 at the Tobermory distillery, this Scotch whisky benefited from 18 years of maturation in a single first-fill sherry hogshead cask (1st Fill). This maturation in a cask that previously held sherry adds an extra dimension to Ledaig’s characteristic peaty intensity.

Bottled at cask strength at 54.9% ABV without chill filtration, this single malt preserves the full extent of its aromatic richness.
