A whisky combining Burgundian craftsmanship and Scottish tradition
Michel Couvreur, the visionary
Founded in 1978 by Michel Couvreur, a Belgian négociant-éleveur based in Burgundy, this pioneering French whisky House embodies a unique fusion of Burgundian winemaking expertise and Scottish spirits. Based in Bouze-Lès-Beaune in Côte-d'Or, the company has historically sourced distillates from distilleries in Scotland, which it matures and blends according to Burgundian principles of cask aging. Since 2020, Michel Couvreur has had its own distillery. Following the founder’s death in 2013, the estate has been run by his daughter Alexandra Couvreur Deschamps, Chair of the Board of Directors, alongside Cyril Deschamps, Chief Executive Officer, and Jean-Arnaud Frantzen, Cellar Master. This independent House exports to more than forty countries, perpetuating the philosophy “Virtute et Opera”.
Blossoming Auld Sherried: an exceptional single cask aged in Pedro Ximenez casks
To craft this Scottish whisky, Michel Couvreur planted in Scotland a specific barley variety, bere barley, suited to the climate of the Orkney Islands to achieve the finesse and aromas sought. This single cask benefited from 14 to 15 years of aging in old 70-year-old Pedro Ximenez casks. This extended maturation in casks that previously held this Spanish fortified wine gives the whisky its dark hue, rich texture, and complex aromas of candied fruits and sweet spices. Blossoming Auld Sherried Single Cask is presented in an elegant wooden case, highlighting its exceptional character.
