Characteristics and tasting tips for Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz 2021
Tasting
The nose reveals vibrant aromas of red fruit and spice that carry through onto the palate. Fresh, bright fruit is balanced by supple, silky tannins that stretch out over a lovely acidity.
A great Hunter Valley wine from exceptional terroirs
The estate
With more than 160 years of history, the Tyrrell's family has become a leading name in Australian winemaking. Owning 8 of the 11 oldest vineyards in the region, it showcases a remarkable diversity of terroirs, including century-old plots. Championing grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Shiraz (Syrah) and Semillon, the estate enjoys universal acclaim from the most prestigious critics and the most discerning connoisseurs alike.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a selection of some of the finest plots on the estate and in the surrounding area, most of which are planted with 40-year-old vines.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were carefully destemmed without crushing, preserving as many whole berries as possible for fermentation. The wine was then aged in large, old 2,700-litre French oak foudres, allowing the fruit to express itself with purity while ensuring a subtle oak presence.
