Description

Tasting notes and recommendations for Bruno Colin's Bourgogne 2021

Tasting

Color

The color reveals a pale yellow hue with bright green highlights, characteristic of a cool vintage. This crystalline shade reflects the wine’s purity and the elegance of the 2021 vintage.

Nose

The nose is immediately expressive and wonderfully fresh. It reveals aromas of white fruits, notably lemon and green apple, alongside chalky mineral notes. Delicate floral nuances of white blossoms complete this pure, precise bouquet.

Palate

The attack is clean and balanced, driven by a natural acidity that brings tension and definition. The palate unfolds with citrus and white-fruit flavors, supported by a lingering minerality. The texture remains rounded without heaviness, offering fine aromatic precision. The finish is vibrant and persistent, leaving an impression of mineral freshness.

Food and wine pairings

This white Bourgogne pairs perfectly with grilled langoustines, delicate fish with beurre blanc, or seafood. It also complements roasted poultry, veal, or aged cheeses such as Manchego or Parmesan with elegance. Also ideal as an aperitif with tapenade toasts.

Serving and cellaring

This Bourgogne 2021 can be enjoyed now or cellared for a few years to gain complexity. Serve chilled, between 10 and 12°C, to preserve its freshness and minerality.

A white Bourgogne of remarkable mineral purity by Bruno Colin

The estate

Founded in 2004 by Bruno Colin after the division of the family estate Michel Colin-Deleger, Domaine Bruno Colin spans 8.75 hectares across Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Dezize-les-Maranges in Burgundy. Bruno Colin, sole owner and head of the estate, farms twenty appellations, including eight Chassagne-Montrachet white Premiers Crus and two Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet). The estate stands out for its vineyard philosophy focused on the pure mineral expression of its terroirs, rigorous winemaking, and remarkable mastery of oak aging. Awarded one star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2026, the estate produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines of increasing rarity, highly sought after by professionals worldwide.

The vineyard

This Bourgogne white comes from plots located in the Côte de Beaune, on limestone and clay-limestone soils typical of the region. These terroirs give the wine its characteristic minerality and natural tension. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with regular ploughing to aerate the soils and encourage optimal vine expression.

The vintage

The 2021 vintage in Burgundy proved particularly demanding. After a severe frost in April that reduced yields, spring and summer were marked by cool, humid conditions. Despite these climatic challenges, a rigorous selection of grapes made it possible to produce wines of great freshness, with remarkable natural acidity and pronounced minerality. Harvest took place in September, with ripeness favoring elegance and precision over concentration.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels with 20 to 25% new oak. Bourgogne 2021 follows the same aging protocol as the estate’s more prestigious cuvées, aging in barrels for twelve months on fine lees. After aging, the wine is blended in stainless-steel tanks for three to six months before bottling at the estate. Since 2013, the bottles have been wax-sealed to optimize cellaring.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
