Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2024 from Domaine des Lambrays
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a beautiful ruby to garnet red hue, combining visual depth with the transparency characteristic of its grape variety.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with expressive notes of red and black fruits, such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. It is then enriched with delicate floral touches of rose and violet, underscored by sweet spices, a hint of dark chocolate and subtle woody nuances.
Palate
Full-bodied and plush, the palate offers a rich, silky texture, perfectly supported by velvety tannins. The wine lingers on a persistent finish, marked by a lovely mineral freshness and light notes of citrus zest.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great red wine from France pairs beautifully with noble poultry such as roast pigeon or guinea fowl stuffed with mushrooms. It also elegantly accompanies white meats such as roast veal with morels, as well as dishes showcasing wild forest mushrooms.
Serving and Ageing
To fully appreciate the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. Decanting for about an hour is advisable while the wine is young, to help release its aromas. Blessed with excellent ageing potential, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2038.
The Richness and Finesse of a Great Morey-Saint-Denis Wine
The Estate
Located in Burgundy, Domaine des Lambrays was gradually built up over the course of the 20th century around the celebrated Clos des Lambrays, a historic terroir first mentioned as early as 1365. Acquired in 2014 by the LVMH group, the estate is now managed by Jacques Devauges. With a vineyard covering approximately 15.3 hectares, it stands out for its ultramodern facilities and highly precise viticulture. Combining respect for living ecosystems with innovation, the estate embodies the excellence of the Côte de Nuits through wines of remarkable purity.
The Vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come from exceptional terroirs within the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. The vineyard is planted on clay-limestone soils at an ideal altitude of around 250 metres. The blend brings together young vines from the estate's grand cru alongside plots from the village's renowned premiers crus, such as Les Riottes, Les Sorbès and Le Village. The vines are farmed under organic certification, incorporating sustainable practices such as horse-ploughing and exclusively hand-harvesting.
Winemaking and Ageing
The creation of the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2024 relies on a rigorous selection of the berries, followed by alcoholic fermentations lasting around three weeks. The winemaking process incorporates a balanced proportion of about 50% whole-cluster grapes and 50% destemmed grapes. The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels, with a moderate use of new oak, representing around 20%, in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.
