Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Côte-Rôtie "Côte-Bodin" 2023 Jean-Michel Gérin

Tasting

Colour
This Vin de France reveals a red colour.

Nose
Intense and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of dark fruits such as wild blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. It is then enriched with delicate floral touches of violet, spices such as black pepper and aniseed, as well as nuances of mocha, liquorice and a subtle mineral thread.

Palate
The palate offers a silky texture with well-integrated tannins, although still slightly grippy in their youth. Concentrated and carried by a beautiful minerality from its shale terroir, it reveals an energetic freshness and a persistent finish with saline, bloody accents.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled meats, particularly feathered game such as quail or pheasant. It also accompanies herb-marinated skewers, Mediterranean vegetables, or rich dishes such as a mushroom and truffle risotto.

Service and storage

The Côte-Rôtie "Côte-Bodin" 2023 needs a little aeration to release its full aromatic complexity. With a solid tannic structure, it has genuine ageing potential and will continue to develop over the years in the cellar.

The mineral and elegant expression of a Côte-Rôtie wine

The estate

Founded in 1983 by Jean-Michel Gérin, then twenty-two years old, the eponymous estate has actively participated in the revival of its appellation. Located in Ampuis, in the Rhône Valley, the estate spans around twenty hectares. Today, Jean-Michel Gérin runs the estate alongside his two sons: Michaël, in charge of the technical side, and Alexis, who oversees strategic development. Certified organic, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to terroir and its minimal-intervention winemaking.

The vineyard

The vineyard from which this wine originates is located on the steep slopes of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, with gradients ranging from 40 to 60%. The plot benefits from an east-facing exposure, offering ideal morning sunlight while preserving freshness in the afternoon. The vines, around thirty-five years old, thrive on soils rich in shale and mica, cultivated according to organic farming principles and hand-harvested.

Winemaking and aging

For the Côte-Rôtie "Côte-Bodin" 2023, the hand-harvested grapes undergo a Burgundian-style fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by extended maceration. Aging then takes place over twenty-two months in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak carefully adapted to preserve the identity of the terroir.
