The refinement and aromatic expression of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine
The estate
Named in homage to the oratory located at the foot of its very first plot, L’Oratoire des Papes has symbolized for nearly 150 years the balance between pleasure and prestige. In a contemporary, very pure style, the House highlights the expression of the four major soil types emblematic of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Wines renowned for their elegance, well beyond the appellation.
The vineyard
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation stands out for the exceptional diversity of its soils, shaped across three major geological eras: limestone fragments, rolled pebbles, safres and red sandstone. In keeping with this mosaic of terroirs, the estate favors vineyard practices inspired by organic farming and a low-intervention winemaking approach, in order to preserve the identity and singularity of each origin.
Winemaking and aging
Part of the harvest is vinified as whole clusters, with the proportion of stems adjusted according to the vintage. Co-fermentation of the grape varieties is systematic, to gain in complexity. Fermentations begin around 19–20°C, then develop between 25 and 32°C depending on the year. Extraction, carried out mainly through small pump-overs and long macerations, seeks infusion rather than mechanical power. Aging continues for 12 months in truncated-cone French oak vats, then an additional 8 months in concrete vats.
Blend
This Rhône Valley wine is a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre.
