Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Oubliés" 2022 Verget

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful golden hue, ranging from pale to deep, subtly tinged with green highlights.

Nose
The nose opens on a complex bouquet blending aromas of white fruits such as pear and apple. Delicate notes of white flowers intertwine with subtle mineral touches and fine toasted nuances.

Palate
On the palate, the wine offers a full, rich and silky texture. This density is perfectly balanced by a vibrant acidity that brings a great deal of tension. The tasting stretches into a long finish marked by a beautiful minerality.

Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as scallops, cod or a pike quenelle. It also enhances white meats and poultry in creamy sauces, mushroom risotto, as well as aged goat cheeses.

Service and storage
This Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Oubliés" 2022 can be enjoyed now, but it also has excellent aging potential, allowing it to be cellared until around 2035.

Other characteristics
The alcohol content of this wine ranges between 13 and 13.5%. Additionally, the estate favors the use of screw caps or Diam-type closures to preserve the freshness and consistency of its cuvées.

The Richness and Minerality of a White Wine from Pouilly-Fuissé

The estate
Founded in 1990 by the visionary Belgian Jean-Marie Guffens, the négociant house Verget has profoundly transformed the approach to white wines from southern Burgundy. Rejecting conventions, this structure purchases very high-quality grapes from partner winegrowers to create cuvées of remarkable purity. Today, while Jean-Marie Guffens retains strategic direction, it is winemaker Julien Desplans who leads operations and winemaking. Together, they craft terroir-driven wines that elevate the Mâconnais to the pinnacle of Burgundian winegrowing.

The vineyard
The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation rests on a fascinating geological mosaic, nearly 200 million years old. The vines flourish on steep hillsides, between 200 and 300 meters in altitude, benefiting from east and southeast exposures. The soils consist of silica-rich marls, scree, and crinoidal limestone, offering an ideal terroir for expressing minerality.

The vintage
The year 2022 stood out with a warmer and drier climate than previous years, marked by episodes of intense heat in June and August. Despite these intense summer conditions, yields proved highly satisfactory, resulting in a generous harvest and berries of beautiful ripeness.

Winemaking and aging
To craft this Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Oubliés" 2022, the grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, sometimes over several passes. Pressing is closely monitored, and each plot is vinified separately using indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place on fine lees, with regular stirring, in oak barrels, stainless steel tanks or egg-shaped concrete vats.
