Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the La Côte à Bras Gift Box & Sydonios Decanter 2016 by Joseph Perrier
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a bright, limpid golden hue.
Nose
The bouquet opens with floral aromas reminiscent of iris and daffodil, intertwined with indulgent notes of sponge cake. With aeration, delicate hints of vibrant strawberry and cherry jam emerge, alongside gentle spicy nuances.
Palate
The attack is lively and remarkably fresh, leading into an ample, fleshy texture. The palate is enlivened by tangy flavours of freshly squeezed citrus and subtle notes of vanilla and cinnamon, stretching out into a long finish with a lovely saline quality.
Food and wine pairing
Ideal to open a meal or for a refined aperitif, this champagne pairs beautifully with delicate seafood dishes such as sea bass carpaccio, sea bream ceviche, shellfish or sushi. It also makes a fine match for young hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this gift box, serve the wine at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. The Sydonios decanter allows for gentle aeration that enhances its aromas while softening its effervescence. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until at least 2028.
The purity and precision of a singular Blanc de Noirs from Champagne
The estate
Founded in 1825 in Châlons-en-Champagne, the house of Joseph Perrier stands out for its independence and rich family heritage. Now led by Benjamin Fourmon, representing the sixth generation, the estate enjoys international renown, built on a history marked by recognition from the British Royal Court. The house is distinguished by its impressive cellars of Gallo-Roman origin and its deep commitment to biodiversity. Certified High Environmental Value and Sustainable Viticulture, it skilfully combines respect for its historic terroirs with a resolutely modern vision.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes exclusively from the historic lieu-dit La Côte à Bras, a small 0.77-hectare plot located in the Premier Cru classified terroir of Cumières, in the Vallée de la Marne. Facing due south, these Champagne vines thrive on marly soils, offering ideal conditions for optimal ripening of the grapes, which are harvested by hand with the utmost respect for the environment.
The gift box
This gift box contains one bottle of La Côte à Bras 2016 by Joseph Perrier, accompanied by an elegant decanter designed by Sydonios.
The vintage
The 2016 vintage was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a sometimes capricious start in spring, the season was saved by a particularly fine and favourable summer, allowing the berries to reach an excellent level of ripeness while retaining lovely freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The berries are gently pressed to preserve the clarity of the juice. The wine then undergoes an exceptionally long ageing period of 108 months on the lees deep within the house's historic cellars, fostering the development of its great aromatic complexity.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
