Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Les Voirmissa Blanc de Noirs 2019 cuvée by Minière F&R
Tasting notes
Color
A golden hue with rosy glints, characteristic of a carefully crafted blanc de noirs, unfolds in the glass.
Nose
The nose reveals fine aromatic complexity, with notes of red and black fruit accompanied by spicy nuances reminiscent of aniseed and liquorice. Toasted and brioche notes brought by barrel ageing round out the bouquet harmoniously.
Palate
The attack on the palate is full and generous. The palate expresses a lovely richness typical of the estate's wine-driven style, with an ample structure supported by well-preserved freshness. The fruity flavors linger through to an elegant, well-balanced finish.
Food and wine pairing
This champagne pairs perfectly with shellfish and seafood. It also goes very well with white meats and dishes featuring mushrooms and truffles.
Serving and cellaring
The Les Voirmissa Blanc de Noirs 2019 cuvée is best enjoyed at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C.
A rich, wine-driven Champagne blanc de noirs from the Les Voirmissa lieu-dit in Hermonville
The estate
Minière F&R is a family estate founded in 1919 in Hermonville, in the Montagne de Reims. Frédéric and Rodolphe Minière, representing the fourth generation, took over the estate in 2005 and began producing their own champagnes in 2007. The estate cultivates close to eight hectares of vines and stands out for its artisanal approach, favoring quality over quantity, with limited production from the finest old-vine plots. Frédéric, trained in oenology and having worked with Anselme Selosse, applies a philosophy of full vinification in oak barrels.
The vineyard
The Les Voirmissa Blanc de Noirs 2019 cuvée comes from the Les Voirmissa lieu-dit, located in Hermonville, in the Champagne region. The plots benefit from a south and southeast exposure on a slope offering optimal ripening conditions. The well-drained, mineral-rich soils, loamy-sandy at the top of the slope and loamy-clay-sandy at the bottom, rest on a limestone substrate. The estate maintains vines with an average age of fifty years, including some ungrafted, own-rooted vine plots preserved thanks to the absence of phylloxera. Sustainable viticulture favors organic amendments and respectful soil management.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage in Champagne began with a mild, wet winter, followed by a cool, rainy spring with risks of frost and mildew. June marked a turning point with the arrival of summer conditions, followed by two heatwaves in succession, the second at the end of July reaching forty-three degrees Celsius and causing sunburn on some berries. These conditions led to a drop in yield, but the carefully sorted grapes showed a good balance between sugar and acidity, with lovely freshness. Pinot Noir demonstrated good resistance to the climatic stresses of this contrasted vintage.
Vinification and ageing
The Les Voirmissa Blanc de Noirs 2019 cuvée was vinified and aged entirely in oak barrels. After direct pressing of the grapes, the musts fermented naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wines remained on fine lees for six to eight months with regular bâtonnage. Malolactic fermentation was blocked in order to preserve the wine's freshness and individuality. The champagne then benefited from extended ageing on the lees before disgorgement, allowing all the components to blend harmoniously. Bottling was carried out with a cork stopper.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
